Career highlights question

How much detail should you go into when writing about your accomplishments - are we talking about 3-4 lines for each career highlight? And how many career highlights should you include?

Response
Hi Wanda,

Yes - aim for 3-4 lines of content for each accomplishment or career highlight that you include in your resume.

In terms of how many career highlights to include - the answer here is not about how many, it's about what is relevant. The accomplishments you include should ideally be related to offering evidence of your past capability to perform elements of the role for which you are applying. Either that, or evidence of achievements related to a particular skill in the job role that you are applying for.

When writing career highlight statements use either the CAR (Challenge, Action, Result) formula, or the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) formula. These will help you to organise your thoughts and to write compellingly about your career accomplishments.

Best wishes
