Job search links and resources

The job search links and resources outlined on this page are recommended to you because they contain relevant job search advice, information and ideas that will assist you in making a career change, and more generally in managing your career.

So.....if you are actively job searching, or are in the process of making a job or career change, you will find the job search websites and other resources listed here will add significant value to your job search.

The authors of the job search web sites listed here are either job search coaches, or specialists in their subject areas. In my opinion the information and tools they offer will:

  • Extend your knowledge of how to conduct a brilliant and successful job search campaign.
  • Extend your job search skills, for example in how to network, create a resume or in writing a cover letter, participate in a successful job interview, or skillfully negotiate your salary etc.
  • Help you to manage your attitude, and to develop the necessary confidence and self belief to successfully make your next career move.
  • Develop a range of career management skills so that as far as possible you have both the confidence and ability to exercise some degree of control over your career.

Here are some of my favourites:

What Color Is Your Parachute? by Richard Bolles - a best seller for many years that has stood the test of time. Importantly it is continuously updated. This 2012 release, the 40th Edition no less, has been significantly re-written to encompass the realities of job search today which the author describes as being a "survival skill". This book, over the years, has helped many thousands of people to identify what their true talents and career direction are.
The Pathfinder: How to Choose or Change Your Career For a Lifetime of Satisfaction and Success by Nicholas Lore. The author provides more than 50 self assessment and diagnostic tools so that you truly can make informed choices about your suitability for particular occupations and career directions. Also includes lots of practical advice and some important information about handling self doubt which is usually the most significant barrier people need to overcome in managing their careers.
Career Distinction by William Arruda. Managing your professional and personal brand is perhaps one of THE most significant issues for people in today's job market. This book is a definitive guide on just how to do that. Described by some as being the bible on personal branding for career purposes. It covers one of my pet themes, which is being clear about who your target audience is and designing your message accordingly.
